The Date: June 1980. The Place: Miami, Florida.
As the very first NWOBHM band to hit the USA, Marseille had just finished a six-week, barnstorming tour of
20,000 seater arenas with Nazareth and Blackfoot. The album had just been released and a single “Over and
Over” had just entered the British Top 40. Prior to this the band had toured the UK extensively with such
legendary rockers as UFO, Whitesnake, Judas Priest and Ian Gillan.
The band were ready to take the world by storm…
Unfortunately, on arriving back in the UK, Marseille witnessed the implosion of their management company,
Mountain Records and were plunged into a two and a half year legal battle with no money and no equipment.
Fast forward through 25+ years …and five divorces! Marseille are back for some Unfinished Business. An
appropriate title for their new album of 10 kick-ass tracks for 2010.
With the original founder members Neil Buchanan and Andy Charters providing the guitar fire power, the two
are joined by fellow rockers Nige Roberts (vocals), Ace Finchum, also a member of Tigertailz (drums) and Rob
Brooks (bass from February 2012), creating a newer, no nonsense outfit.
Following several months of recording and warm-up gigs, including their official ‘rebirth’ at the Hard Rock Hell
III festival in December 2010, the band have been described in reviews as:
“In-your-face-hard rock and rip-roaring anthems”
“Catchy to the point of cardiac arrest – they’d even get the furniture dancing”
“The twin guitar attack from these classic rockers is fantastic to hear”
“100% British Beef”
“Aerosmith, AC/DC, Kiss and pinch of Slade in a blender”
…and the band’s favourite quote from Classic Rock’s Dave Ling, “Muscle and Melody”.
Whilst totally embracing their original heritage, Marseille intend to bring a whole new audience to classic
rock/metal. Following guitarist Neil Buchanan’s global success in the multi-award
winning TV programme “Art Attack” , the band are now attracting a whole new generation of rockers – the
university kids and teens/early twenties. Built up worldwide over 15 years, Art Attack’s international audience
of loyal followers – whether from Canada to Central America, or Germany to Japan – are reacting to
Buchanan’s re-emergence as a hard rocker with complete awe. Half a million Neil Buchanan Facebook friends
and fans are now migrating their loyalty from the TV personality himself, to Marseille – and discovering real
rock for the first time!! They come to the gigs as Buchanan/Art Attack fans but they invariably go home as
Marseille rock fans!
…and as for the band themselves – an album release, new DVD and EP release in 2012, festivals, a tours …it‘s
time for some Unfinished Business
